Membership in CFA Society San Francisco
Membership in CFA Society San Francisco grants you access to the most exclusive and relevant events and forums for Bay Area investment professionals. The Society also hosts educational seminars on a variety of investment-related topics, holds social events, offers career development resources and special events for sub-sections of our membership, such as the Young Professionals Network and the CFA Women's Initiative.
Getting involved with CFA Society San Francisco is easier than ever before, even if you don't live or work in San Francisco. CFASF events have recently expanded into the South Bay, East Bay and North Bay, which means that it is no longer necessary to travel in order to connect with your fellow Charterholders. From cocktail socials, to lunch lectures to volunteering opportunities, CFASF is working hard to bring the Society to your doorstep.
CFA San Francisco’s roughly 3,400 members include investment professionals employed by Bay Area banks, insurance companies, investment counselors, brokers, public agencies, universities and corporations.
CFASF's membership consists of overwhelmingly of CFA Charterholders, investment professionals who have demonstrated mastery of the skills most needed for investment analysis and decision-making in a global financial industry. To earn the CFA charter, candidates must first have four years of qualifying investment work experience; must be a member of the CFA Institute (the global association that administers the CFA charter) and must pledge to adhere to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct on an annual basis. Further, candidates must apply for membership to their local CFA member society and must complete the CFA program.
Earning a CFA Charter is a commitment. Organized into three levels, program candidates report dedicating an average of 300 hours to prepare for each six-hour exam. Completing all three levels of the program takes most candidates between three and five years.
Once completed, CFA Charterholders join an elite group, carrying a designation widely recognized as the most prestigious in the global world of finance. The job functions represented by the membership are diverse, ranging from equity, fixed income and alternative investment analysts to portfolio managers, investment counselors, sales and marketing professionals and partners, principals and CEOs of their firms.
