CFA Society San Francisco is delighted to announce our upcoming premier in-person event, The Future of Investing Symposium, on May 15th at San Francisco City Hall. Up to 300 investment professionals will gather to hear insights from local and international thought leaders on geopolitical shifts, socioeconomic changes, and digital transformation. Attendees will gain insights on harnessing opportunities and approaching new challenges, enabling them to stay current and best serve their organization’s and clients’ needs in this rapidly changing world. Join wealth managers, family office professionals, major pension fund representatives, RIAs, treasury professionals and many more at this landmark event. 

In addition to the 45-minute conversation on the future of investing, this event will also serve as a celebration of the Society's 95th year serving the investment community! Speakers

Elizabeth Burton, CAIA, Managing Director & Client Investment Strategist, Goldman Sachs Asset Management

Elizabeth Burton, CAIA, is a managing director and client investment strategist in the Client Solutions Group within Goldman Sachs Asset Management. In her role, she advises institutional clients on their investment strategy and portfolio objectives, working alongside global client advisors and product strategists across public and private markets. Ms. Burton joined Goldman Sachs in 2022 as a managing director.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Burton was chief investment officer at the Employees' Retirement System of the State of Hawaii. Before that, she served as a managing director in the Quantitative Strategies Group at the Maryland State Retirement Agency, where she was responsible for the agency's absolute return portfolio and oversaw risk management. Earlier in her career, Ms. Burton held leadership positions as an investor, economist, and consultant in asset management as well as fixed income trading.

Ms. Burton serves on the Board of Directors of the Chartered Alternative Investment Association (CAIA). In addition, she serves on the board of the Hill School. Ms. Burton earned a BA in Politics and French from Washington and Lee University in 2004 and an MBA in Finance and Econometrics and Statistics from the University of Chicago in 2011. She is a charterholder of CAIA.

 

Ted Egan, PhDChief Economist, City and County of San Francisco

Dr. Ted Egan is the Chief Economist of the City and County of San Francisco, and directs the Office of Economic Analysis in the City Controller’s Office. The office prepares independent economic analysis of major City legislation.

Since he joined in 2007, his office has published over 100 economic impact reports on policy issues like the minimum wage, affordable housing, taxes and fees, land use planning, sporting events, labor regulation, and short-term rentals. During this time at the City, Dr. Egan has served as an expert witness on the economics of same-sex marriage, and won a Good Government award for his work redesigning the City’s business tax. He currently serves on the Data Users Advisory Committee of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Before joining the City, Dr. Egan spent ten years working for ICF International, managing economic development strategy projects across North America, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East. He received his PhD from UC Berkeley, and lectured in the Economics and City Planning departments at Berkeley for more than ten years.

 

Karin Kimbrough, PhDChief Economist, LinkedIn

Dr. Karin Kimbrough is the chief economist at LinkedIn, where she leads a team of economists and data scientists who deliver research and insights from LinkedIn’s Economic Graph. She previously worked as assistant treasurer at Google and as managing director and head of macroeconomic policy at Bank of America. Dr. Kimbrough previously served as vice president in the Markets Group of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York during the financial crisis.

Dr. Kimbrough holds a doctorate in economics from Oxford University, a master in public policy from the Harvard Kennedy School, and an undergraduate degree in economics from Stanford.

In 2017, Dr. Kimbrough was recognized by Black Enterprise as one of the most powerful Black Women in Business. She is a member of the Fannie Mae Board of Directors and the Federal Reserve Board of Chicago’s Academic Advisor Council.

 

Ashby Monk, PhDExecutive & Research Director, Stanford Research Initiative on Long-Term Investing; Co-Founder, Shelton AI; CSO & Co-Founder, thirdACT PBC; and Senior Advisor, FutureProof Technologies

Dr. Ashby Monk is currently a Senior Research Engineer, School of Engineering at Stanford University, and holds the position of Executive Director of the Stanford Research Initiative on Long-Term Investing.

Dr. Monk has more than 20 years of experience studying and advising investment organizations. He has authored multiple books and published 100s of research papers on institutional investing. His latest book, The Technologized Investor, won the 2021 Silver Medal from the Axiom Business Book Awards in the Business Technology category.

Outside of academia, Dr. Monk has co-founded several companies that help investors make better investment decisions, including Real Capital Innovation (acquired by Addepar), FutureProof, NetPurpose, D.A.T.A., ThirdAct, Growthsphere, SheltonAI and Long Game Savings (acquired by Truist). He is also a member of the CFA Institute’s Future of Finance Advisory Council and was named by CIO Magazine as one of the most influential academics in the institutional investing world.

Dr. Monk received his Doctorate in Economic Geography at the University of Oxford, holds a Master’s in International Economics from the Université de Paris I - Pantheon Sorbonne, and has a Bachelor’s in Economics from Princeton University.

Devin Banerjee is a senior managing editor at LinkedIn, leading a team of journalists and community managers covering key industries such as finance, technology, and health care for LinkedIn's membership of 950 million professionals. Mr. Banerjee previously oversaw Bloomberg’s coverage of North American dealmaking, including the private equity industry, corporate M&A, capital markets, and shareholder activism.

He is an honors graduate of Stanford University and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
